Plus if you've got good ankles and not so good thighs, then you can still wear trousers and get the best of both worlds. In the summer these cheeky little suits, worn with bare legs and flat shoes, will be everywhere so buy them now before every high street store sells out.

I don't agree that this look cuts your legs in half and makes them look short. Really wide trousers are still best worn long and floppy but with straighter ones you should be aiming for mid calf. I love this look - not only can you saw inches off last years trousers if you so wish, but they look so nice at this length, really modern and fresh. But the greatest change in suits is in the trousers: they're worn very short. They're either loose and pyjama-y or neatly tailored but with either the feel is clean No unnecessary lapels or details. Suits are such a lovely shape this spring. But do you know, I believe Chris Woodhead will understand. The author's name has been changed..

If only they had known what to look for, they would have found it in abundance As it was, they left empty-handed. I remain convinced that they were either from the tabloid press or the local authority, seeking evidence on which to sack me. My landlady reported that two men had been snooping around my flat, in the wake of a Communist paper implying that I was being removed for alleged left-wing sympathies. Students, parents and staff all agreed that it was essential that I should stay. The entire school went on strike, there were protest marches in the city centre, a TV documentary was made and the story was front page news in German newspapers.
